Subtle Memory Keeping Idea with a Twist! (With Video Tutorial!)
Hi there! It's Nathalie with you today to bring you a subtle memory keeping idea with a twist featuring the beautiful Bouquet of Poppies, and Timeless Sentiments 2 Die Set. The beautiful details in the floral designs of the Bouquet of Poppies are delicate and whimsical and are highlighted by the font design in the sentiment die set, a perfect combination.
Let's first take a look at the complete layout:
This spread features soft colors, contrast, and a little surprise (a twist) that together make this spread elegant and impactful. It took a small of time to put this page together, let me walk you through the process:
1. Create The Background
I am using the large floral design in the Bouquet of Poppies stamp set and Dusty Pink Fresh Dye Ink to create two 7x7in panels on white cardstock. The soft stamped detail is subtle but perfect for the background of the photo side of this spread.
I am also using the second stamped panel along with the Nesting Oval Die Set to create the title page for this spread. I am using contrasting colors of cardstock in the background to help bring out the details in the stamped oval.
2. Working on Subtle Embellishments
In order to keep this layout balanced, it is important to keep my embellishments also in the same color tones. My choice to stamp the outlines of the poppies and butterflies with Warm Gray Fresh Dye Ink makes them stand out from the background, but still remain soft and subtle in comparison to the photo. I used tones from the Blushberry Bliss Fresh Dye Inks, Jade Dreams Fresh Dye Inks , Blush Fresh Dye Ink, and Dusky Pink Fresh Dye Ink to detail all the embellishments.
3. Title Work
For my title and extra sentiments for this layout, I am using the same tones of ink -as in the florals- to create an inked blended background. Using the Timeless Sentiments 2 Die Set, I cut a few of the sentiments from the inked and white cardstock, as well as vellum.
For the picture side of the layout, I layered the ink background offset behind the white cardstock sentiment, and set it at the bottom of the poppy die cuts,.
For the title page, I am using the inked sentiment and setting it on the vellum offset die cut. This allows the stamping on the oval to still be visible under the title.
4. Adding a Twist
To keep the layout airy, I am choosing to hide the second photo under the oval stamped die cut. I am keeping the oval movable with the help of a brad at the very top of the oval -think of it as a hinge of sorts- . For this simple movement to happen, I have to make sure that any embellishment is added to the oval -moving part-, so it makes the movement seamless.
5. Finishing Touches
Subtlety is the main concept of the spread, so I am keeping my extra embellishments to a minimum with just a few enamel dots. I am making sure they sit through out the page, so they guide your eye throughout the page.
