How to Create a Distressed Foiled Card with Press Plate
Hi everyone, Aga here! Today I’m excited to share a card that’s a little out of the box for me, but still very much aligned with my clean and simple style.
For today’s project, I used the Wildflower Whispers Press Plate, featuring delicate cosmos flowers and wild foliage in a seamless design. This press plate uses a reverse-ink format to create a richly textured, debossed impression, making it perfect for elegant and artistic handmade card backgrounds.
In addition to traditional letterpress techniques, the Wildflower Whispers Press Plate can also be used for the hot foil technique. For today’s card, I wanted to explore this option to achieve an eclectic yet clean and simple look.

How to Create an Eclectic Distressed Card Using Press Plate and Foil
I began by creating the background using the Wildflower Whispers Press Plate and Hot Foil Roll - Brass (Satin). I experimented with different types of cardstock and adjusted the pressure during the hot foiling process to see how it affected the final foiled impression. I was especially happy with the imperfect, distressed gold foiling on Crafty Necessities: Cloudy Sky Cardstock, as it added beautiful character and texture to the background.

I trimmed the foiled panel to fit my card base and decided to keep the design very simple. I used the Fine Alphabet Die Set with Crafty Necessities: Soft Lilac Cardstock to cut out the HELLO word, then added a coordinating sentiment from the Thinking of You Stamp Set in a different font style for contrast.

The reflective brass hot foiling made this card tricky to photograph, as it changes with every angle and lighting, but that ever-changing shine is exactly what makes it so special in real life.

I hope this project inspires you to try something a little out of the box with your own Wildflower Whispers Press Plate, whether for traditional letterpress or hot foiling. Keep your design simple, let the foiling shine, and most importantly, enjoy the creative process!
Thank you so much for stopping by today!
