A Fun Way to Use Up Leftovers! (With Video Tutorial) | Terrific Tags with Michelle

Hello there, Michelle here with another edition of Terrific Tags with Michelle. Today I wanted to share a fun way to use up leftovers. Do you keep leftover die cuts in your stash? I do! Not only do these make for quick and easy projects, I love being able to use up the ‘waste'.

Using Up Leftovers

In the past, I had die-cut the Zero-Waste: Berries and Branches Die three times from Crafty Necessities Cardstock to use on two projects. I had loads of pieces left over so I saved them in a little pocket to hopefully use for future projects. Today is one of those future projects!

I had already added ink blending to the foliage cut from Craft Necessities: Dew Drops & Aqualicious Cardstock with Sweet Dreams Fresh Dye Inks. The foliage I cut from Crafty Necessities: Limeade Cardstock was still bare, so I went ahead and added ink blending to these pieces for some added depth and dimension.

I placed them on my Sticky Mat, and using a Micro Blending Brush, blended Green Valley Fresh Dye Inks on top, focusing the ink towards the center of the leaves so that you still see the cardstock color at the tips.

Die Cutting

I took one of the envelope dies from the Fun Little Envelopes Die Set and die-cut it from Classic Crest 80lb Solar White Cardstock. Using my bone folder, folded the envelope shut and adhered it using Ultra Sticky 1/4″ Double-Sided Tape.

I had already cut the hearts from the set from Crafty Necessities: Pink Diamond Cardstock (they were stored in the pocket with the foliage), so I adhered two (one on top of another) onto the envelope.

I then die cut the ‘hugs' sentiment from Scripted Sentiments Die Set five times from Crafty Necessities: Jet Black Cardstock. They were adhered one on top of each other for dimension.

The Tag

I die-cut one of the largest Terrific Tags Dies from Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Cardstock. It was cut then down using my guillotine to create a shorter tag.

The foliage was adhered to the tag first, using liquid glue. I then adhered the envelope on top using Ultra Sticky 1/2″ Double-Sided Tape. The sentiment was adhered on top using liquid glue.

I tied black twine through the top of the tag and tied in a bow. To finish, I embellished with Ivory Pearl Dots.

The Card

Although I thought the tag looked great as a standalone tag, I also thought it would look great on a card. I created an A2 sized white card base (4.25″ x 5.5″) from Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Cardstock and then using the Crafter's Essential Scoring Board and stylus, I scored lines on the front panel at every 1/2″ from the top to the bottom.

To bring in more of the pink from the heart, I blended Pink Diamond Fresh Dye Ink at the bottom of the card using a Large Blending Brush. I then further intensified the saturation of ink right at the bottom using a Small Blending Brush.

The tag was then adhered on top using Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

I hope I have inspired you to try and use up those leftovers and also why keeping leftovers is a great thing to do. This card came together really quickly, as I only had a little extra die cutting to do. I find this really helpful if I need a card quickly!
