10 Essential Techniques for Adding Shine to Your Cards
1. Hot Foil Plates – Chevron Background Hot Foil Plate
Hot foil systems are a worthwhile investment, especially since Altenew has recently added this category to their crafting line. Hot foil plates add easy dimension and professional-looking shine to any card.
2. Metallic Embossing Powders – Paint-A-Flower: Magnolia Rustica Rubra
Sometimes the Paint-A-Flower illustrations are perfect on their own without fancy coloring. I used the outline as one of my focal elements for this shimmery card.
3. Must-Have Gel Pen Set – Gold
I love that these pens write smoothly. If you're in the market for opaque and buttery white gel pens, I highly recommend the Must-Have Gel Pen Set.
4. Metallic Ink Sprays – Iridescent
Instantly add sheen over a large area with the metallic sprays. I used the Iridescent Ink Spray to add a slightly different palette than the white and gold.
5. Glitter Cardstock – Gilded
I love glitter cardstocks because they catch the light in so many angles and appear as if they're twinkling. I used the glitter cardstock as a die-cut element and shadow to the die-cut sentiment.
6. Metallic Cardstock
Metallic cardstocks are similar to glitter cardstocks. I consider them to be more of a spotlight since they reflect light in one direction rather than many directions. I like using metallic cardstocks on larger die-cuts for added drama.
7. Metallic Thread – Enchanted Gold
Bundles of metallic thread not only add a lot of attention but break up artificial lines in your cards. I like using bundles of metallic thread to ‘circle' my sentiment on busier floral arrangements.
8. Pigment Ink – Enchanted Gold
I like to use the Altenew Pigment Inks for mixed media. I used the Enchanted Gold Pigment Ink to add texture and shine to my tissue paper wrap. This helps hide the seam I left for the Magnolia Rustica Rubra image.
9. Metallic Watercolor Pan Set – Enchanted Gold
Splatters add a mysterious aura to your paper crafting projects. I used Enchanted Gold to carry the color theme throughout the card. I let a few droplets touch the Magnolia Rustica Rubra and Dahlia Bright Eyes images.
10. Sequins – Satin Gold
Finally, I added a few sequins. I like to ‘connect the dots' between sequins to give readers a chance to glaze over the entire focal area. In the case of my metallic card, I wanted the recipient to notice my Magnolia Rustica Rubra and Dahlia Bright Eyes bouquet.
Hope you have lots of fun creating with this new outline stamp set! Enjoy the hop!
