Modern Monochrome Florals With a Fun Pop of Color! (With Video Tutorial)

Hello there, Michelle here with another edition of Terrific Tags with Michelle, and today, we're making tags with monochrome florals! 

If you have followed me for a while, you will know that I love black and white. I don't usually make the focal point completely monochrome though, but I tried it with this flower and thought it was beautiful!

Making Monochrome Florals

To start my monochrome florals, I took a sheet of Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Cardstock and placed it in the Stampwheel. I then stamped the outline of the florals in the Airbrushed Flowers Stamp Set (one flower and two leaves) on top using Obsidian Pigment Ink.

Instead of adding the color with the next layers, I decided to add one layer of stamping on top with the same Obsidian Pigment Ink. I love how these florals have an airbrushed look, so even with just black ink, they still have depth to them!

TOP TIP: These would look lovely in shades of grey too. It would still give a monochrome look but with a slightly different feel!

I set them aside to dry and then die cut them out using the coordinating dies from the Airbrushed Flowers Die Set.

I stamped a sentiment from Build-A-Garden: Daisy Crown onto Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Cardstock, and keeping with the monochrome look, I stamped it using Obsidian Pigment Ink again. It was die cut using the coordinating die.

Add a Pop of Color!

Whilst die cutting, I cut two of the largest tags from the Terrific Tags Die Set from more Classic Crest 110lb Cardstock.

Whilst I love the monochrome look, I did want to add that pop of color to the background, so I took Gradient Cardstock in Summer Afternoon and Cherry Blossom and cut the sheets into 0.25″ strips. I used Pinkalicious and Razzleberry from the Cherry Blossom Set, and Buttercream and Warm Sunshine from the Summer Afternoon Set.

I adhered the strips to the tag, at a diagonal, using liquid glue. I left a small gap in between them so that the white cardstock would show through. The excess was then cut off the sides using scissors.

The other tag was adhered to the back using Glue Tape (this adds stability to the tag but also gives me somewhere neat and tidy to write a personal message). I then adhered the leaves to the front of the tag using Glue Tape. The flower was adhered on top using Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

I die cut another two of the ‘hello' word die from Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Cardstock and stacked them behind the stamped one, for some added dimension. It was then adhered to the tag.

To finish off, I added twine through the top of the tag and tied it in a bow, followed by embellishing it with Essential Black & White Enamel Dots (just the black ones!).
