May 2025 Inspiration Challenge

Each month, a member of the Altenew Design Team (or guest designer) selects a photo that they have taken and then uses that as inspiration for a project. We want to share the fun, of course, and so we invite YOU to use your own creativity to make a project inspired by this month's photo. Let's hear it from Rebecca!

Inspiration Challenge Photo

Hi, Altenew crafty friends! I’m Rebecca and I am so excited to help host the May 2025 Inspiration Challenge!

The challenge color combination was picked from colors in a photograph that I took of a few of my favorite things right now! I recently purchased new dinnerware from Anthropologie and I am in love with the blue and white colors. I added a lemon, because when summer is on the way, I love cooking and baking with lemons. Plus, I just love their bright cheery yellow! Pink is just one of my favorite colors right now so I added a few pink flowers. And lastly, the metallic pen is one of my favorites and I love adding touches of metallics to most of my cards!

2 Congratulations Card Ideas with Bold, Pastel Colors!

To create my congratulations cards, I decided to use Altenew Press Plates. I love how you can both letterpress and foil with these plates!

Card #1: Ink Blending on Foiled Images

So I started with the Floral Serenade Press Plate and foiled it with the Hot Foil Roll in Gold Mirror. Once I had that gorgeous gold design, it was time to add color! Fortunately there are a myriad of Altenew Inks that would work great with the challenge photo! For this card, I chose Baby Pink, Fresh Lemon and Iceberg. I used the Mini Blending Brushes to blend these colors diagonally across the foiled panel. The foil resists the ink beautifully!

For a bit of interest, I die cut the Petite Mountain Aven Layering Die Set out of white cardstock. To make the colors perfectly match, I ink blended the white cardstock with the same colors of ink I used on the background. To finish the card off I foiled the One-Go: Solid Sentiment Strips 2 Press Plates.

Card #2: Fun Floral Shaker Card

For the second card, I wanted to punch up the colors a bit to more directly match the challenge colors, so I used Fuchsia, Maple Yellow and Caribbean Sky. I used them along with the Flowering Hedge Bundle. This bundle comes with Registration Press Plates that include an acetate piece that helps you use the various plates to easily create multiple color letterpress backgrounds.

Once I had my colorful background, I used the dies from the bundle to cut out the Flowering Hedge. The die-cuts a center out of the design and so I figured this would make a great shaker card! I simply adhered a piece of acetate behind the open area and used Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

I had so much fun creating these cards for the Inspiration Challenge, but now it is YOUR turn! I hope you are inspired to grab a combination of pink, blue and yellow and maybe add a touch of metallic too, but I will leave that up to you! I can’t wait to see your take on this color challenge!
