January 2025 Inspiration Challenge

Each month, a member of the Altenew Design Team (or guest designer) selects a photo that they have taken and then uses that as inspiration for a project. We want to share the fun, of course, and so we invite YOU to use your own creativity to make a project inspired by this month's photo. Let's hear it from Aditi!

2 Quick & Easy Cards Featuring Houseplants

Inspiration Challenge Photo

Hello everyone! Aditi here and I’m excited to be kickstarting the new year with an Inspiration Challenge. I often say- “I find inspiration all around me, especially in fabric.” This photo today is of a cushion cover I was inspired by. It gave me a unique color combination and was the perfect place to start creating. There are so many elements here to be inspired from. Both the cards use the same elements, but with different color proportions, as well as layouts. I used the Petal Palooza 3D Embossing Folder to create a card panel for both the cards. One card uses Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock and the other an off-white one. I die cut the leaves from the Creative Cuts: Houseplants set using Just Green and Evergreen Cardstock. Next, die cut the pieces of the flower pot twice using Vanilla Cream, Sicilian Amber, Grapevine, Milk Chocolate and Brushed Gold. Adhere the layers referencing the guide on the packaging. Lastly, die cut the flower layers on white cardstock and ink-blend using the following inks- Canyon Clay, Burnt Red, Coral Berry, Ruby Red, Green Gold, and Sicilian Amber. Assemble the flowers together.

Houseplants Card #1: Elegant Hanging Plants and Florals

For this card, cut a piece of Heart Beat Cardstock at 4.25” x 5.5”. This will make for the A2 Card Mat. The off white embossed card panel measures 4”x 5.25”. Layer the hanging flower pot using foam tape. Adhere leaves and flowers to create a composition. Embellish it with Blush Pearl Dots and adhere a sentiment to finish it.

Houseplants Card #2: Cute Potted Floral Plant

For this card cut a piece of Sicilian Amber Cardstock at 4.25” x 5.5”. This will make for the A2 card Mat. The white embossed card panel measures 4”x 5.25”. Layer the flower pot using foam tape. Adhere leaves and flowers to create a composition. Embellish it with Satin Gold Pearl Dots and adhere a sentiment to finish it. I used Sicilian Amber and Jet Black Cardstock for the sentiment from the same set. I’ve used the colors from the inspiration photo in both these cards. The difference is that one color is more dominant than the others and just by switching the dominant color I achieved two different looks.
