3 Simple Tools to Make Stunning Sentiments with a 3D Embossing Folder | Perfect Pairings with Jaycee + Video

This embossing folder technique was highly requested on my Instagram and blog when I first shared it for the Whimsical Fairy Tale Embossing Folder Release. This card making technique is truly a Perfect Pairing, and you will be shocked to see how easy it is to create these stunning results!

This card making technique stems from the die-cut inlay technique that I first saw in this blog post from Jennifer McGuire. I am calling this technique the embossed overlay technique. You will need 3 crafty items to make the cards outlined below.

Embossing Folder Technique: Embossed Overlay

Altenew has a wide array of embossing folders available on the online shop. They can come as part of crafting bundles or as stand-alone releases. The Peony Sunshine 3D Botanical Embossing Folder was part of the Whimsical Fairy Tale Stand-Alone Embossing Folder Release.

I recommend using an embossing folder with a high density of detail. This way, when you use your next essential tool in the next step, you capture a lot of detail within your embossed overlay.

This step is essential for your embossed overlay. To capture the detail in the folder illustration, you will also need a die with a large surface area. I used the Caps Bold Alphabet Die Set in my card example.

Again, I recommend a die with a large surface area. It does not necessarily have to be a letter die-cut set. Your large shape dies like Halftone Circles Nesting Die Set will work beautifully as a frame for your smaller sentiment die.

Lastly, to create a range of value on our card, you will need crisp ink. I used Mixed Media Ink on my card example since it stays put on the folder's slick surface.

Experiment with color combinations on your card. I used a monochrome/tone-on-tone color palette, but there are (currently) 5 mixed media ink families to choose from that you can mix and match!
