How to Add a Modern Touch to Autumn Memory Keeping (With Video Tutorial!)

Hello friends! It's Nathalie here with a new idea on adding a modern touch to autumn memory keeping featuring the new Leafy Splendor 3D Embossing Folder and Crafty Necessities Cardstock.  The combination of the details in the new embossing folder with the variety of cardstock colors give a new life to autumnal memory keeping (for my Gratitude/October 6×8 album). Let's take a look at what I have created!

How to Add a Modern Touch to Autumn Memory Keeping

I love how this autumn memory keeping layout feels modern and light while still having traditional elements in it. Here is what makes this spread/pocket page modern:

• Non-traditional color palette

The first key to adding a modern touch to memory keeping, in this particular spread, is a non-traditional color palette.  I am using shades of Crafty Necessities Cardstock (Pink Diamond, Pastel Sunrise, Buttercream, Frayed Leaf, Volcano Lake, Misty Morning) to create the chevron lines in the spread.

My choice to go for a deep and saturated base color – Crafty Necessities Arctic Mountain Cardstock– makes the color and design of the pieces on the spread pop more on the page, and brings a lot of interest to the page.

• Use a Linear Design

Going for a simple linear design for your spread provides visual impact while also allotting the perfect picture placement.  I am extending the design through the two sides of the spread, so the angle the paper strips create on the page allow for the viewer's eye to follow throughout the page.

• Add contrasting embellishments

I wanted to add a touch of traditional to my spread, and to continue with the idea of adding a modern touch to autumn memory keeping, I chose to create leaves using the new Leafy Splendor 3D Embossing Folder from white cardstock.  I fussy cut the leaves so that there was a more detailed and delicate look to the embossed leaves.

• Add a Touch of Shine

I wanted to add pops of extra texture and a little bit of glitz to the spread, so I am using Dazzling Diamond Glitter Cardstock to create the title  with the new Timeless Sentiments: Holiday Edition, and a few extra embellishments with the Celebrate with Cake Die Set.

• Keep the Design Clean and Simple

Keeping the design clean and simple is a great way to add a modern touch to autumn memory keeping.  For my spread, I decided to keep the journaling hidden in a pocket.

This keeps the spread focus on the chevron line and the pictures.  By hiding the journaling, I am adding extra emphasis to the pictures even when they tell different daily stories.
