4 Better Card Backgrounds with the BetterPress Essential Textures | Perfect Pairings with Jaycee

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing three techniques that will help you make the most out of your BetterPress backgrounds. Let’s get started!

Creating a Balanced Background: Rustic Burlap Texture
The Essential Textures: Rustic Burlap press plate features a subtle and uniform pattern, making it an ideal starting point for a versatile card background. For my first card, I pressed this texture onto Vanilla Cream Cardstock. To enhance the burlap effect, I applied a blend of Almond Butter ink for a warm tone, adding some darker variations with Milk Chocolate for depth.
Next, I created a central halo blend of Hazelnut ink to prepare for my focal element. This beautifully balances the light background with the vibrant colors of the flowers to be added later.
The main feature of this card comes from the Translucent Foliage Craft Your Life Project Kit. I used Permanent Black Ink to stamp the images, coloring them with the Water Garden Artist Marker Set, which perfectly matches the Delectable Delights color family. The resulting focal point is bold yet harmoniously contrasts with the more modest burlap background.
Harnessing Bold Backgrounds: Gilded Marble Texture
Moving on to my second card, the Essential Textures: Gilded Marble press plate provides a bolder statement as a background. Starting with white cardstock, I inked the plate with Dew Drops from the Sweet Dreams Fresh Dye Ink Set, infusing the space with lovely color. To amp up the richness, I added gold foil using the Glimmer System, creating a striking interplay of gold and blue.
To introduce a third dimension, I used Wisteria Fresh Dye Ink to softly blend into two opposing corners of the panel. This bold background allows room for a more subdued focal point. I chose the leaves from Craft-A-Flower: Blue Poppy Anemone as a soft element to juxtapose against the dynamic background.
Finally, I designed a gold drop shadow to enhance the Essential Sentiments Hot Foil Plate sentiment, completing this elegant card that balances an intriguing backdrop with a soft focal design.
Mixing Patterns: Terrazzo Press Plate
The last addition, the Essential Textures: Terrazzo press plate, offers a unique opportunity to create an interesting background. I pressed this onto Spicy Yogurt cardstock using Vanilla Cream Fresh Dye Ink then decided to layer it with an additional feature.
After creating a secondary background with the Delicate Tiles stamp set, I mixed and matched colors like Jet Black, Teal Cave, and Almond Butter to form four vibrant tiles. These tiles, adhered on top of the terrazzo background, bring a rich complexity to the card while maintaining visual harmony.
For the focal sentiment, I utilized the Sweet Sentiments Die Set for an elegant touch, coupled with the Branches and Berries Die Set to introduce a delicate element. This card's finished look strikes the perfect balance between structured tiles and playful script.
