2 Ways with 1 Layering Die Set! | November 2024 Guest Designer: Aditi Mahajan

Get to know Aditi

My name is Aditi Mahajan and I’m excited to be a guest designer for Altenew. By profession, I work as a Psychologist and Healing Professional. Over the years, I've taken to art as a form of therapy, and am working towards a more holistic approach of healing. I've been creating Mixed Media Art for about a decade now. 

When it comes to my style, I'm always attracted to deeper meaning of life and emotions and I connect that to my art and my creations. Therefore, every project has a story to tell. I use vibrant colors and splatter that denotes freedom and spreads radiance. At the same time, I’m good at creating with pastels and subtle tone when a project demands. I create intuitively.

I enjoy cardmaking, creating layouts, journal spread, tags, canvases, albums and altered art. I always enjoy challenges, and love experimenting with new techniques and letting my imagination go wild.

I am also an Altenew Certified Educator and teach not just card making classes, but also art journaling and other paper crafts.

Create 2 Thank You Cards with Just ONE Layering Die Set!

For the post today, I’ve created two cards using the Craft-A-Flower: Coreopsis. I wanted to show you two looks with the same layering die set, but by changing my coloring medium. 

Card 1: Thank You Card with 3D Embossed Background

For this card, I started off with die cutting all the layers on white cardstock. Then, I assembled and glued the layers together following the guide. 

Next, I used the Cottage Garden Artist Markers to color in the flowers, leaves and bud. This was a relaxing process, as I love coloring. I used the pinks for the petals, the pastel orange for the flower centers, and the green for the foliage. 

I ran the Autumn Blaze Cardstock through Ways to Thank You 3D Embossing Folder to create the background and adhered it to the white card base.

I stamped a sentiment from Build-A-Garden: Breezy Petals, using the same Blushberry Bliss Fresh Dye Inks for an ombre look, and die-cut it. 

Finally, I created a composition and adhered the florals onto the card panel. I completed it with enamel dots in the same shades of pink. 

Card 2: Bold & Vibrant Thank You Card with Geometric Background

For the second card, I brought out my Crafty Necessities Cardstocks and Fresh Dye Inks. I die-cut the flowers with Maple Yellow Cardstock, the leaves with Olive Cardstock, and the flower centers with Purple Wine Cardstock. 

I also die-cut the PixelGrid Cover Die out of Heart Beat Cardstock and cut an A2 piece using Brushed Gold Metallic Cardstock. 

I stepped up the Coreopsis die-cuts with ink blending. I used Warm and Cozy Inks for the petals, with some Purple Wine. For the leaves, I used Sugar Kelp. Then, I adhered the layers to assemble the flowers. 

For the sentiment, I used Pocket Sentiments and embossed it on Heart Beat Cardstock with Antique Gold Embossing Powder. 

To put the card together, I adhered the Brushed Gold Panel on the card base and the PixelGrid Background over that. Finally, I adhered the flowers and leaves and completed it with the sentiment. 

These are two ways of using this layering die set, however, there is so much more that can be explored. I really hope this inspires you to pull out your Craft-A-Flower Layering Die Set and create different cards!
