Vintage Hanky Card Inspiration with Altenew Florals

Do you get card inspiration from clothing like I do?

I have found that textiles and fabric patterns are so incredibly inspirational in so many ways: layouts, color schemes, floral arrangements, and textural additions.

Vintage fabrics are especially beautiful, and vintage handkerchiefs are so delicate and feminine and had such a wide variety of styles. I love that they weren't afraid to use color in all sorts of unexpected ways, like these vintage hanky-inspired turquoise flowers on today's card project.

I used the gorgeous, gigantic Bountiful Bouquet stamps and dies with alcohol markers and a couple of different die-cuts to add some extra texture. Let's get started with the details!

Vintage Hanky Card Inspiration

First, I began by stamping the gorgeous outline floral arrangement from Bountiful Bouquet onto some white cardstock using alcohol marker-friendly ink, offsetting it in the corner of an A2 panel so that it would fall off the card front.

I then used Artists Markers Set A to add some beautiful vivid turquoise and bottle green to the image. I've never seen a flower this color of blue, much to my chagrin, but in my imaginary garden, turquoise peonies are definitely a reality!

I die cut the finished colored image using the coordinating die.

Next, I wanted to add some lacy, feminine details to continue the vintage handkerchief theme I had started for this card inspiration.

Delicate lace and embroidery were hallmarks of women's clothing and accessories and to help convey that, I die cut a strip of “lace” from some white cardstock using the Creative Edges: Lace Die. I also die cut a background from some more white cardstock using the Dotted Tile Debossed Background Die. Then, I layered the lacy strip on the “embroidered” background with some liquid adhesive and added a thin strip of holographic cardstock in a coordinating shade of blue to match my flowers.

I adhered the floral swag using Instant Dimension Foam Tape. I then added a greeting from Bountiful Bouquet, which I stamped on a strip of white cardstock using black ink and adhered to the card front using a double layer of foam adhesive to make it really pop from the page.

I love how the florals are dripping down over the front of the card! To continue the visual cascade down the card front, I added a few iridescent gems to further coordinate with the holographic blue cardstock. Three little pops of color on this otherwise crisp, pristine white card-love!
