How to Add Softness to 3D Embossing with a Faux Velvet Look | Terrific Tags with Michelle
Hello there, Michelle here with another edition of Terrific Tags with Michelle. Today I wanted to share a technique that adds softness to 3D embossing to give a faux velvet or suede look.

Ink Blending
I started off my tag by die cutting the flat-bottomed largest tag in the Terrific Tags Die Set from Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Cardstock.
Using Small Blending Brush Set (Flat Bristles), I added ink blending to the tag. I focused the darker shades towards the bottom and left-hand side and kept top right-hand side light.
I first covered the tag with a layer of Baby Pink Fresh Dye Ink, followed by Fuchsia and then Magenta (all from the Bubblegum Dreams Fresh Dye Ink). I wanted to add even more darkness, so I added in a little Midnight Violet Fresh Dye Ink (Shades of Purple Fresh Dye Ink) to the darkest areas.

3D Embossing
I then placed the tag inside the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Garden Whispers 3D Embossing Folder and ran it through my die cutting machine.
TIP: Adding the ink blending first adds a little moisture to the cardstock and helps to prevent cracking.
I then went over the darker areas of the tag again with a little more Midnight Violet Fresh Dye Ink.

Faux Velvet Look
To add a softness to the tag, but also help to highlight the 3D embossing, I sponged Cloud White Pigment Ink over the raised areas. I did this lightly and in layers to get a mottled/faux velvet type look.
TIP: The white ink will show up more over darker areas than lighter ones.
To enhance the texture of the white pigment ink, I misted Iridescent Shimmer Ink Spray on top. Water could also be used here, but I love the shimmer that the iridescent spray gives!

Finishing Touches
Whilst the ink and spray were drying (I did heat set it initially with my heat tool, to help the drying process, I stamped my sentiment. I stamped ‘thank you' from Craft Your Life Project Kit: Garden Whispers Stamp Set onto Crafty Necessities: Jet Black Cardstock using Embossing Ink.
I applied Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder and heat set. It was die cut out using the coordinating die.
I adhered it to the tag using new Instant Dimension Foam Tape 1/4″ x 1/16″ x 49ft. I love having this thinner version for sentiments!
To finish the tag, I simply threaded twine through the hole at the top and tied in a bow.
