Hello, everyone! Aga here, and today I'm sharing a simple floral card inspired by the sunshine and relaxed charm of the coast. When I think about summer, I picture warm sunny days, clear blue skies, and the soothing colors of the seaside.

Those cheerful summer vibes inspired today's coastal floral card, featuring a sunny yellow bloom set against a background of bold blue stripes that remind me of the ocean. Creating a themed handmade card is a wonderful way to send a pocket full of sunshine to someone you love this season.

Step 1: Stenciling the Main Element for Your Floral Card

I started by creating the floral arrangement that would become the focal point of my floral card. To bring the Build-A-Garden: Blossoming Trio Set to life, I stamped the image in black ink and used the coordinating stencil set to add color.

  • For the flowers: I chose cheerful yellow shades from the Summer Afternoon Fresh Dye Ink Bundle to give this floral card a bright, sunny energy.

  • For the leaves and stems: I used the Whispering Woodland Fresh Dye Ink Set along with Evergreen Fresh Dye Ink, creating a fresh, vibrant contrast against the bright blooms.

Step 2: Creating a Striped Background for the Coastal Floral Card

For the background of this floral card, I used the Watercolor Stripes Stencil with Cloudy Sky and Nimbus from the Tranquility Fresh Dye Ink Set to create soft blue stripes.

Adding geometric or textured stripes behind organic shapes is an easy layout trick when designing a modern floral card. The striped design adds a subtle coastal feel and beautifully complements the sunny yellow flower.

Step 3: Adding Depth to Your Handmade Floral Card

To complete the design, I added a circle of watercolor paper painted with blue shades from the Watercolor Compact – Bold Ember set.

Placing a soft watercolor background circle behind your main image is a fantastic way to anchor the design on any floral card. It echoes the blue stripes while adding depth and separation behind the stenciled floral arrangement.

Step 4: Adding the Sentiment and Popping Up the Design

I finished the floral card by adding a sentiment, popped up with Foam Adhesive Dots – 1/16", to make it stand out against the rest of the design.

I really love these foam dots because they come in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, making it easy to choose the perfect one for any paper crafting project while adding just the right amount of dimension to your handmade floral cards.
