February 2024 Inspiration Challenge

Hello Friends! It's Kelly Griglione, and I'm beyond excited to be hosting the Altenew February Challenge!

My latest passion is hunting down street art (especially when I visit a new city). On a recent trip to Cincinnati, I found this beauty called Mother's Bouquet by Louise Jones and knew it was going to serve as future inspiration. I hope you check out her online gallery as it's all mind-blowing. Maybe you'll even find a piece in your city!

The black, brick-textured background, the orange and purple floral combination, and the refreshing pops of white all combine for one heck of a design. That's exactly what I pulled for my card, featuring the Jumbo Garden Picks Dies.

Pro tip: One tip I have for any layering die set is to plan ahead what colors you want to use for each die, especially in a set like this with so many pieces. This way you can put as many dies as will fit on your die-cutting plate and cut down your die-cutting time.

Once the layers are cut, I like to piece together one flower in each color to see what it looks like. This was helpful, as I ended up swapping out one of the middle orange colors in my final version. Sometimes it's hard to picture the result, especially since the darkest color is the largest die, however, only 5-10% of it actually shows on the layered flower.

I was excited to find the Organic Linen 3D Embossing Folder gives the perfect brick texture, just like the inspiration photo!

After arranging the flowers on the linen background, I covered the dies with a piece of press ‘n seal so I could easily place adhesive on the back and adhere them to the card base in the same spot.

Since I only used 3 orange and 1 purple flower from the Jumbo Garden Picks Dies, I made this “free” second card with the leftovers.

The Hello die from All About You Word Die Set looks amazing in metallic gold.

It's fun to see the same exact flowers, but on a cream background, they have a different vibe. I ended up only using 2 of the 3 purple flowers, and couldn't leave the last flower. So a third card came to be LOL.

The Beautiful Bergina 3D Embossing Folder is the gorgeous white base for this card.

The “amazing” die is from the All About You Word Die Set and easily bends around the rounded panels created with the Nesting Frames Die Set. The bottom sentiment embossed in gold is from Versatile Vases 2.
