3 Hidden Techniques for Stenciling Stunning Backgrounds | Perfect Pairings with Jaycee

Full Background Stenciling

The Dynamic Duo: Fruitful Fun layering stencil and stamp set creates a complete background. Whether you pick a portrait or landscape orientation for your card, these images are sure to occupy every space of your card.

However, I recommend filling in the card with more artful elements aside from stenciling. In my example, I used a variety of different background inks to fill the background with color. I made an embossed resist with clear embossing powder so that I could ink blend a blue gradient on the background.

I also used the Acrylic Markers Vol 1 Set to add little dots to fill the background with more color and interesting elements. Since this stenciled card does not have any other focal elements in the background, I believe in creating a strong impact for the card.

Asymmetrical Sentiment Placement

The Dynamic Duo: Fruitful Fun bundle is not a symmetrical pattern. I try to create a sense of balance in my cards to coupling symmetrical with asymmetric placement. In this example I disrupt the falling fruit pattern with an eccentric placement of the Mega Greetings 2 sentiment.

I think that this creates a little more interest in the sentiment, showcasing it a little bit more. After all, your sentiment is the focus and topic of the what you want to share with the card recipient.

Create Textured Elements

Stencilling cards creates flat and drab backgrounds. My hack is to add creative textural elements throughout the card. Something that your recipient can touch and experience.

In this card, I used clear embossing powder as a shiny texture. I also used glitter cardstock to create more shine in the sentiment and help draw your eyes to the sentiment. 

The addition of enamel dots as the final embellishment also add a slight shine to the card.
