March 2025 Inspiration Challenge

Each month, a member of the Altenew Design Team (or guest designer) selects a photo that they have taken and then uses that as inspiration for a project. We want to share the fun, of course, and so we invite YOU to use your own creativity to make a project inspired by this month's photo. Let's hear it from Avis!

Are you ready for another Inspiration Challenge? These gorgeous sunflowers captured my eye while I was at the grocery store, so I snapped a picture. Sunflowers remind me of bright, sunny, and warmer weather. The colors in this photo are uplifting and they inspired me to make a bright and cheerful birthday card for one of my friends and I hope it will inspire you.

Bright and Cheerful Birthday Card

I made a double pillar handmade birthday card with the Dancing Sunflowers Bundle.

Here's the step-by-step process on how I created this fun birthday card:

• I inked up one of the sunflower stamps with embossing ink, covered the stamped image with Antique Gold Embossing Powder, and heat set it.
• I colored the sunflowers with Fresh Lemon, Maple Yellow, and Redwood Fresh Dye Inks, the leaves with Mystic Lake Fresh Dye Ink, and the Rosebud from Romantic Roses Stencil Art Set with Coral Red Fresh Dye Ink.
• I made 2 pillars with 2 pieces of Coral Bliss Crafty Necessities Cardstock measuring at 6″ x 5.5″ and scored them at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 inches.
• I folded all scorelines forward.
• Then, I folded the first 2 scorelines over, added double-sided adhesive tape to the first 2 scorelines, and folded the right side over to create the pillars.
• I cut down a sheet of Coral Bliss cardstock to 4.5″ x 5.25″.

• I used the Squiggly Lines Stencil along with Enchanted Gold Shimmer Relief Paste to create my own patterned paper.
• Once the paste dried, I cut down 6 pieces measuring at 3/4″ x 5.25″ and adhered them to the sides and fronts of the pillars.
• I centered the pillars in the box of my Alignment Mat and carefully adhered the left side edge of the sunflower to the left pillar, and the right edge of the sunflower to the right pillar while pillars are folded flat.
• I repeated the same process on the back using the shadow die-cut of the sunflower.
• I adhered the rosebud behind the sunflower and adhered the “Wishing you many years” sentiment from the One-Go: Birthday Greetings bundle to the sunflower.
• This card will fit into an A7 envelope when folded flat.
