Light & Airy Ink Blended Shaker Card with Nesting Arches
Hello, crafty friends! Lea here today for the first time on the blog, with my first edition of Light & Airy Looks with Lea. I’m featuring the new Nesting Arches die set, which is basically a must‑have essential type of die set. I paired it with the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Garden Gala, with a focus on the stunning landscape design included in the stencils to create a fun shaker card! The sentiment is from the stamp set.
What is a Shaker Card?
For the newbies out there, a shaker card is essentially an interactive handmade card where you place items 'inside' a card panel, like confetti, embellishments, or anything you think looks great! If you move the card around, the elements inside do a little shake. How fun! Now onto the blog!
When it comes to creating a light & airy look, you don’t have to limit yourself to pale inks or barely there color. In fact, this southwestern‑inspired landscape leans on a few deeper ink tones. The key is in how you blend them. By applying the color lightly and slowly building intensity only where needed, those richer hues stay soft, breezy, and full of glow. For reference, the inks I used on the gradient from bottom to top are: Mangrove Root, Sea Forest, Burnt Red, Canyon Clay, Raspberry Sunset, Dusty Pink, Snapdragon and Pool.
TIP: You can always add more ink to your shaker card if your blend feels too light, but once it’s down, you can’t take it away. Gentle layers are your friend here.
How to Make a Shaker Card
Turning the design into a shaker card adds even more lift and movement. I filled the window with Crystal Moonlight sequins, which catch the light beautifully without overwhelming the scene. The arched shaker window is framed in Moonstone glitter cardstock, and that sparkle helps break up the darker ink tones while brightening the entire visual flow of the card.
To keep everything cohesive, I chose Crafty Necessities: Blush cardstock for the base. It pairs so beautifully with the light pink ink blending, and that soft pastel foundation really seals the deal on the light & airy feel. The sentiments are stamped in Obsidian Pigment Ink and heat embossed in Antique Gold Embossing Powder, giving the finished card a classy, modern touch that complements the landscape without competing with it.
