A New Idea for Handcrafting Memory Keeping Layouts (with Video Tutorial!)
Hi there! It's Nathalie with you today with a new idea for handcrafting memory keeping layouts featuring a few of my personal favorite Altenew products.
Today, I am mixing and matching stamps, stencils, press plates, and hot foil plates to create a new pocket page memory keeping layout. There is nothing more rewarding than to create a project from scratch, and see how you can extend the use of your products in new ways. Let's take a look at the project!
Creating A Title Page
Most the interest of this spread is placed on the title page of the layout. The inspiration for this spread is a past card that I created using Spark Joy: Sweet Greetings. I love the arch design in the hot foil plate. This time, I am the plate to create a template for my title page.
I used a pencil to draw the inner arch of the plate onto Cold Press Watercolor paper – trimmed to 5.75 in. x 8.5 in. – then flipped the plate 180 degrees and penciled a second arch connected to previous one, so that together, they create a sort of pill design on the page. Using my Comfy Cut knife, I cut the penciled shape out of the panel.
How to Maximize the Use of Your Products
Here is where I started with the idea of maximizing the use of my products in this fun idea for handcrafting memory keeping layouts. My choice is to use the Essential Textures: Wood Press Plate and Antique Gold Pigment ink to create the look of wooden slats on the panel. I am using a piece of Celebrate Patterned Paper to back the empty space.
Bring on the Florals!
I am using Build-a-Garden: Blooming Delight, and Build-a-Garden: Nature's Magic to create my florals. I am keeping them rather simple with just a few touches of blue ( Northern Shore Crisp Ink Mini Cube set) that match the colors in the photo. The florals are positioned to the left of the panel, as if coming from under the cut out space.
Title Work
In a way, I wanted to replicate the look of the foiled sentiment in the original card for my title, my choice is to use Sweet Sentiments Die and Bold Numerals Die Set along with Metallic Brushed Gold Cardstock, and Dazzling Diamond Glitter Cardstock.
To create the foil look, I used the gold cardstock as the shadow behind the glitter die-cuts giving it the look of the foiled sentiments.
Time to Balance the Spread
In order to balance the title page, and bring the photo into focus, I am choosing to keep the pocket page rather simple and with a larger photo. In order to tie the two sides of the spread together, I first used a paper from the Celebrate collection to frame the photo, and set it at the top of the pocket page.
Next, I brought one of the Build-A-Garden: Nature's Magic florals to the journaling card to tie all the blue of the page together. Then, I added a banner created with the Essential Texture: Wood Press Plate and Brush Gold (Mirror) Hot Foil Roll to the bottom of the card.
Finally, I used the One-Go Sentiments to bring extra sentiment to the card, and a few drops of Antique Gold Metallic Ink Spray to finish the card.
