Debossing With Dies | Impress With Clean & Simple Cards! (With Video Tutorial)
Hello there! Michelle here, and welcome back to another edition of Terrific Tags with Michelle.
Today I have a fun technique to share with you – debossing with dies. This is a great way to draw your eye to a focal point and add something extra to a clean and simple card!
Creating the Focal Point
For my focal point today, I am using the gorgeous new Craft-A-Flower: Calla Lily Layering Die Set. This is going to be a favorite of mine for sure! Calla lilies are my favorite flower. What's yours?
I die cut two of the calla lilies, as well as the stems and leaves from Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Cardstock. I placed them on a Sticky Mat to hold them in place while I added ink blending on top using a Mini Blending Brush.
I used Limestone Fresh Dye Ink (Rock Collection) for the petals, adding a little green (Firefly and Grass Field) towards the bottom where the flower meets the stem.
TOP TIP: When making something appear white in color, always add a little shading to add dimension.
I then used Sunray, Chamomile, and Pumpkin Pie for the stamens, and Green Valley Crisp Dye Inks (all four shades) for the stems and leaves. The flowers were assembled using liquid glue.
Debossing With Dies
I thought it would be good to add a little something to the card but I didn't want to add an extra layer. I decided to deboss the Terrific Tags Die onto a panel of white cardstock and use this to place my focal point on top. This gives the illusion of another layer without actually adding one!
TOP TIP: I used a tag for my shape today but any shape would work well for this – circles, ovals, diamonds! It just helps to draw your eye to the focal point. Watch the video below to see how I did it!
The panel was adhered to an A2 white card base with Glue Tape. I adhered the stems and leaves on top with liquid glue. I then adhered the flowers themselves with Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
Finishing Touches
I stamped a sentiment from the Dynamic Duo: Dainty Roses Stamp Set onto Jet Black Cardstock using Embossing Ink. I applied Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder and heat set. It was cut into a strip and adhered to the card with Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
To finish off, I embellished it with a few Essential Black & White Enamel Dots (just the white ones).
