Combining Stamping with Die Cutting in a Fun New Way! (With Video Tutorial)
Hello there, Michelle here with another edition of Terrific Tags with Michelle. Today I have a fun card to share using the fabulous new Pop-It-Up: Blooming Hydrangea Stamp & Die Set.
I had a lot of fun making this card! Here's why:
- I love hydrangeas! They are one of my favorite flowers, so this set was already winning for me!
- I love the color combo I used - blues and purples will always be my favorite!
- This set is incredibly fun to use! You combine die cutting with stamping like a puzzle.
- Shimmer Ink Sprays are always fun to use and made coloring my die cuts quick and easy to do.
- Shaped cards are always fun a little bit different to the standard.
Fun Tag Shaped Card
I started off my card by creating my card base. I wanted to create a tag shaped card today. I always find shaped cards fun to make, they are a little bit diffierent from the normal standard cards and recipents always seem to love them!
Creating a tag shaped card is easy - you just need to cut off the top two corners of an A2 sized card base! I cut one off first using my guillotine and then used the piece that I cut off as a template to know where to cut the other one, so that they are symetrical.
Stamping
I placed my card inside the Stampwheel and then stamped the image from Pop-It-Up: Blooming Hydrangea Stamp & Die Set on top using Obsidian Pigment Ink.
When you stamp the image, it stamps letters for where to place the die cut petals on top. Kind of like the keyhole system but with the alphabet instead! So clever!
Die Cutting
Instead of die cutting the petals and then adding the color to them, I thought it might be easier to add color to a panel of cardstock and then die cut.
I grabbed my Metallic Shimmer Ink Sprays, as they are always fun to use and add some lovely shimmer to the petals. I started off with a layer of Ocean Waves, spraying directly onto a panel of white cardstock. I then added Lavender Fields on top. This gave a lovely two-tone look to the petals.
Once the panel was dry, I placed the Pop-It-Up: Blooming Hydrangea Die on top and ran it through my die cutting machine to cut out the petals.
I wanted to add some dimension to them, so I used the Petal Shaper Tool Set to cup them slightly before adhering them to the card with liquid glue.
The die indents/debosses a letter into the center of each of the petals. This then corresponds to the letters on the stamped image, so you know where to place them. If you enjoy puzzles, you will find this really fun to do!
The die does cut out flower centers but I dcided to use Ivory Pearl Dots instead. These added another layer of shimmer and shine to the card!
To finish, I stamped a sentiment from Pop-It-Up: Blooming Hydrangea Stamp Set onto Crafty Necessities: Jet Black Cardstock using Embossing Ink. I applied Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder and heat set. It was cut into a stip and adhered to the card with Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
