Cheerful Holiday Card with Cardinals (Quick & Easy Holiday Cardmaking Tips!)

Hello everyone! Svitlana is here. Today, I’m sharing a card that kickstarted my personal holiday cardmaking of 2024 and which features several recently released holiday die sets.

There are several types of images that are kryptonite for me. I can never have enough of those, and every new set gets me excited. I’m sure many of you have a list of such. i.e. I have a soft spot and am always excited about feathers, sunflowers, poinsettias, fall leaves, and cardinals, to name a few. The latter (cardinal) is the element that plays the main role in the holiday card I'm sharing today.

Cheerful Holiday Card with Adorable Cardinals

I used the Cardinal Love  LayeringDie Set to create a couple of adorable cardinals for my set. Needless to say, I used the new Crafty Necessities Cardstock to die cut the elements for my holiday card. Specifically, I used the Sand Dunes, Crimson, Velvet, and Jet Black for the cardinals. Some cardinal elements have cool debossed design, which I brought out by blending Fresh Dye Inks in matching shades—Crimson and Velvet.

After die-cutting all the elements and adding shading, I assembled the birds by adhering their layers. It was both fun and easy, thanks to the Cardinal Love Die Set’s Key-Hole System, which makes layering the pieces a breeze.

I also made a branch using a die from the same set, die-cutting its elements out of Crafty Necessities Mocha and Dark Chocolate Cardstock and then gluing them together.

To decorate the branch and add more holiday vibes to the card, I also made a couple of berry branches using the Berry Branch Die Set and Crafty Necessities Crimson, Hunter Green, and Dark Chocolate Cardstock.

I added ink blending to the berry and leaves die-cuts the same way I did with cardinal layers, to highlight the debossed design. After that, I glued all the elements to assemble the branches.

With the background, I decided to go simple and just added some clouds to the top part of a white panel using the Cloud Scene Stencil and Sea Breeze Fresh Dye Ink.

I popped up the “main” branch onto the background panel and then decorated it with pieces of berry branches, which I cut into a couple of pieces each.

I often add splatters to my cards (probably more often than I care to admit, haha) and in this case it was almost obligatory to have some “snow” added to the scene. Which I did by splattering the Pure White Ink Spray onto the background and branches.

The background was foam-mounted onto a white card base using the Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

Next, I added the cardinals to the card. Followed by popping up the sentiment, which I die cut out of white and Crafty Necessities Velvet Cardstock using dies from the Timeless Sentiments Die Set: Holiday Edition.

To finish off this cheerful holiday card, I added several Emerald City Gem Sparkles.
