Capturing the Sparkle: Handmade Card with Sequins
Sequins are wonderfully versatile — you can let them take center stage as a sparkling focal point, or arrange them to subtly guide the eye toward your main design, adding both shimmer and a sense of movement across your card.
Welcome back, friends! I’m Mindy, and I have a little inspiration for you on how to add the perfect touch of sparkle to your cards with Stellar Sequins.
Sequins seemed like the perfect way to add a sense of movement to a card made with the Breezy Quest die set from the Mini Delight collection, complementing the whimsical charm of the hot air balloon.
The balloon was created by die cutting the pieces from white cardstock and blending them with a rainbow of inks from the following collections
- Blush & Rough from Red Sunset Collection
- Sunkissed & Orange Cream from Warm & Cozy Collection
- Mid Yellow & Lemonade Stand from Citrus Punch Collection
- Parrot from Tropical Forest Collection
- Pool from Aqua Island Collection
- Hazelnut from Delectable Delights Collection
I added depth to the different sections of the balloon by blending with both Mini and Micro Blending Brushes, creating subtle shading that makes the balloon feel more three-dimensional.
I wanted the balloon to feel like it was truly drifting in the clouds, so I used the Cloud Scene stencil along with Sea Breeze ink and a large blending brush. The soft layers of color add depth and movement, creating a realistic sky for my scene
Towards the bottom of the card, I stamped a sentiment with the Stampwheel using Obsidian ink, filling the open space with a clean, crisp message.
By placing the hot air balloon beside the stamped sentiment and lifting it with foam tape, I added depth and a whimsical floating effect, with the sentiment anchoring the scene and keeping the composition balanced.
For the finishing touches, I added the Dazzling Diamond Stellar Sequins. I arranged them in small groups of odd numbers around the sentiment, creating a natural flow that leads the eye from the sentiment up to the balloon. Each sequin was attached carefully using liquid glue and the Perfect Picker, ensuring they stayed in place while adding just the right touch of sparkle and movement to the card.
Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope this project inspires you to add a little sparkle and movement to your own cards using sequins and playful die cuts like the Breezy Quest hot air balloon. Don’t be afraid to experiment with color, dimension, and placement—sometimes the smallest details, like a few sequins, can make the biggest impact. Happy crafting, and I can’t wait to see what you create!
