Blending Old and New Altenew Favorites for a Festive Christmas Card

There’s a little bit of Altenew magic in the way the classic sets and newer releases play so beautifully together.
Hello friends, Hannelie here and for today’s Christmas card, I paired some older favorites with a few newer products—and even brought in an embossing folder that isn’t part of a Christmas set at all. Yet everything still feels perfectly at home, coming together in a design that’s harmonious, cohesive, and wonderfully festive!
To make today's Festive Christmas Card you will need:
- Mistletoe Wreath Outline Stamp Set with Simple Coloring Stencil set and Coordinating Die
- White cardstock
- Crafty Necessities card stock - Olive
- Citrine Glitter card stock
- Vellum
- Obsidian Pigment ink
- Arched Foliage project kit (Embossing Folder)
- Timeless Sentiments 3 Die Set
- Coral Bliss & Heart Beat Fresh Dye Ink
- Olive & Moss Fresh Dye Ink
- Mountain Pine & Milk Chocolate Fresh Dye Ink
- Stampwheel
- Die Cutting Machine
- Instant Dimension Foam Tape
- Gold Metallic Gem Sparkles
- Adhesive of choice
Step by Step instructions to make today's card:
1. Create the Card Base
Trim and fold a sheet of Olive cardstock to create an A2 card base.
2. Prepare the Embossed Panel
Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4.5" × 3.25", or use a rectangle die to cut a panel to the same size.
Place the panel inside the Arched Foliage Embossing Folder and run it through your die-cutting machine.
3. Stamp the Wreath
Secure a piece of white cardstock onto the Stampwheel’s sticky mat.
Stamp the wreath from the Mistletoe Wreath stamp set using Obsidian Black ink.
4. Add Color With Stencils
Keeping the cardstock in place, use the coordinating Coloring Stencil Set along with mini and micro blending brushes to add color and depth to the wreath.
5. Die Cut the Image
Remove the cardstock from the Stampwheel and cut out the wreath using the coordinating die.
6. Create the Sentiment
Die cut the top layer of the sentiment from Citrine Glitter cardstock and the shadow layer from vellum.
7. Assemble the Card
Adhere the embossed panel to the card base using Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
Add the stamped and colored wreath on top, then finish with the layered sentiment—also popped up with foam tape for extra dimension.
8. Add Finishing Touches
Place a few Gold Metallic Gem Sparkles to complete the festive look.
This card is a great reminder of how texture can completely change the mood of a design. The Arched Foliage 3D Embossing Folder creates the most beautiful brick-wall texture—subtle and full of charm—which sets the perfect backdrop for the wreath. The glitter cardstock adds a touch of holiday sparkle, while the vellum brings in that delicate, dreamy layer that ties everything together. Each texture plays its own role, creating a rich and festive finish.
I’m always amazed at how beautifully Altenew products complement each other, no matter when they were released.
