Project Inspiration
My first two cards showcase the gorgeous new Gel Printing: Soft Washes Paper Pack. I love to create watercolor backgrounds, but I’ll confess, I sometimes go through a lot of paper and paint before I get results like these that please me!
I didn’t want to cover any more of the beautiful color blends on this paper than was absolutely necessary, so I opted to stamp a single, large outline image and let the paper provide the color. I used the previously released Simply Spring Stamp Set for the floral background and the greeting from the Bold You Stamp Set and coordinating Bold You Die Set.
I die cut the bold “you” from heavy-weight Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock, and then stamped the Bold You word with Obsidian Pigment Ink and heat set with Crystal Clear Crisp Embossing Powder. I added the “are the reason I smile” sentiment, also from the Bold You Stamp Set, directly onto the colored paper and over the stamped floral design.
I added a mix of Altenew Enamel Dots to match the colors in the background paper.
The background paper for my second card also comes from the Soft Washes Paper Pack, and I chose this one in particular to accompany the stamped image from the Cozy Winter Vibes Stamp Set because of the way it reminded me of a sky full of electric Northern Lights!
For both cards, I used Permanent Black Crisp Dye Ink to stamp the images and sentiments, as the paper has the slightest sheen to it and I wanted the ink to dry quickly and not smear accidentally.
I die cut some simple white cardstock snowflakes using the Layered Snowflakes Die Set and added them to the card front, allowing that to be the only embellishment to this card.
The Cozy Winter Vibes Stamp Set is amazing. It has 3 large outline images that can be coordinated or can stand alone. I chose to make a slimline card so that I could combine the two images with people enjoying a frosty winter day, and I stamped them onto watercolor paper with Obsidian Pigment Ink. I gave the ink a quick blast with my heat tool to help it dry, and then used Altenew watercolor paints to add color.
I kept the coloring quick and simple, using the new water brush pen and doing very little shading and no color mixing in order to make it more basic and “homespun”. I added some very dilute blue/gray paint to create shadows in the snow and a suggestion of sky, and then added black paint splatters and white gouache splatters.
I stamped the greeting from the Cozy Winter Vibes Stamp Set with Obsidian Pigment Ink and heat set with Crystal Clear Crisp Embossing Powder. Finally, I used Fine Liner Pens to add the double wonky outline around the whole card panel and adhered some clear sequins to complete the card.
