Easy Faux Watercolor Technique Using Pigment Inks (with Video Tutorial!)

Nathalie here to share an easy faux watercolor technique using pigment inks that is perfect for all paper crafting projects.
I love the versatility of pigment inks and how they can transform from a stamping medium to watercolor in seconds. Let me show you what we are creating today!
The secret to this easy faux watercolor technique is to work quickly and help the water activate the ink.
Let me break down this technique into the main components:

Pigment Inks
The formulation of the pigment ink allows for it to react to water yet not lose the opacity of the pigment. That means that even when we are diluting the ink, it will not lose its color.
2. Water
The amount of water you add to your inks will, however, determine how much of the pigment will "move" from the ink. In other words, the more water, the more diluted the ink will become, and the larger and less pigmented it will look.
For my example, I am choosing to create colors of watercolor. This required a bit of masking to avoid the watercolor to populate the entire page.
3. Paper
In order to be successful in recreating this easy faux watercolor technique, you are going to need either watercolor paper and/or coated paper ( using gesso). Since we are rubbing our ink pads on the paper, having a smooth surface works better than textured paper.
4. An Acrylic block or a smooth, flat non-porous surface
TIP! In order to move the ink around, you are going to need a smooth non-porous flat surface. An acrylic block is just perfect for this.
Once you rub ink on the paper, you will spray a bit of water on it then use the flat surface to move the diluted ink. Think of it as smooshing the ink. Remember to clean your acrylic block as you switch colors on your pages.

For my project, I am using the Always Be Kind Stamp Set to bring in the floral embellishments to the page.
I'm using a combination of dies (Be Kind Die Set and Mega You Die) and Glitter Cardstock to create texture and add glitz to the page. And, finally, I'm adding extra pops of color and texture with the use of enamel dots that coordinate with the watercolors' hues.
