Emboss Resist: Easy Technique with Wow Results! (With Video Tutorial)

Hello there, Michelle here with another edition of Terrific Tags with Michelle. Today I have a fun technique to share - emboss resist. This is an older technique and often forgotten about, but this is one of my favorite techniques. Why?

  1. It's easy to do.
  2. Requires minimal supplies.
  3. Gives wow results!

Emboss Resist

I started off my project by stamping the floral image from Build-A-Garden: Hellebore Haven onto a panel of white cardstock using Embossing Ink. I then applied Antique Gold Crisp Embossing Powder. Any color powder will work here, but I particualrly love the gold against the pink inks.

I then heat set the powder until it had melted. Try not to overheat embossing powder as it turns grainy and not so pretty!

I die cut the panel into a tag using one of the largest dies in the Terrific Tags Die Set

Using a Small Blending Brush, I then blended inks on top. I started with a light layer of Baby Pink Fresh Dye Ink, followed by Fuchsia Fresh Dye Ink, adding this ink to the edges of the tag and leaving the center lighter.

I then added Magenta Fresh Dye Ink using a Mini Blending Brush, followed by a little Jet Black Fresh Dye Ink

As the ink is applied to the tag, it sticks/blends to the cardstock but resists the embossing powder and makes it pop! Such an easy and fun technique to do! Remember to wipe away any excess ink on top of the embossing powder though, to get it back to being shiny!

Add Shimmer + Sentiment

I thought the tag would look even better with a little shimmer added. Using a Fine Watercolor Brush, I splattered on Iridescent Shimmer Ink Spray

Once dry, I adhered another tag to the back of the embossed one using Glue Tape. I then added a hole reinforcer, from the Labels & Tags 1 Die Set, cut from white cardstock, to the top. I then tied with black twine.

I added Double-sided Adhesive Sheet to the back of a panel of white cardstock and die cut the 'thanks' from Simple Greetings Die Set from it three times. They were then adhered one on top of another and then onto the tag.

For a sub-sentiment, I stamped a sentiment from Build-A-Garden: Hellebore Haven onto white cardstock and heat embossed with Antique Gold Embossig Powder. It was cut into a strip and adhered below the 'thanks'.
