Elevate Your Floral Die-Cuts: Watercolor and Ink Blending Magic

Hello, everyone! Erum here. Are you ready to take your die-cut creations to new heights? Discover the magic of watercolor and ink blending to infuse your floral designs with organic texture and vibrant dimension. Try this go-to technique for crafting dynamic pieces today! I am sharing a gorgeous card featuring vibrant florals from the Craft-A-Flower: Hibiscus Layering Die Set and a VIDEO for the Creative Coloring with Erum video series.
- Cut all the pieces from the Hibiscus Layering Die Set from the 9×12 Watercolor Paper Pad.
- To color the flowers, use a mixture of Cherry Blossom and Tea Party watercolors from the Artists' Watercolor 24 Pan Set. Tip: Once you have added color to the white base, pounce the paintbrush to create texture and get an organic result.
- For the stamens, use Summer Afternoon watercolor. Apply this to the base and pull it towards the top with water. Apply more pigment if needed.
- To color the anthers, add Fiery Sunset and then add dabs of Warm and Cozy watercolor for texture.
- For the leaves, color the base color with Sea Shore watercolor. Spread it to the tips of the leaves. While the previous layer of color is still wet, add Cool Summer Night watercolor to the base of the leaves and the stems. Keep dabbing this dark pigment so it flows into the grooves of the die-cuts. Add more if needed. Set it aside to dry.
- Cut a circle from the 9×12 Watercolor Paper Pad using the largest die from the Fine Rings Circles Die Set. Color it with Summer Afternoon watercolor. If necessary, use a lighter orange watercolor to interest you. Dry it with a heat tool. Set aside.
- Once the floral layers are dry, use Cherry Sweet, and Tickled Pink Fresh Dye Inks, and Razzleberry Crisp Dye Ink to add inking to the die-cut layers. The Cherry Sweet will be added to where you want to add pops of color. This will look like a vibrant orange on your die-cut. Add Ticked Pink next to it for a tropical effect. You will add Razzleberry Crisp Dye Ink where you want to show depth or shadow. Pro Tip: Elevate your die-cut game by incorporating inking techniques. Not only does it enhance the appearance of your floral designs, but it also brings out intense dimension and contrast, making your creations truly stand out!
- Adhere floral die-cuts with liquid adhesive following the layering guide, keyhole center, and arrow center.
- Add black splatters from Jet Black Ink Spray to a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel of cream cardstock. Tip: Use a paintbrush to avoid a mess and give you more control.
- Adhere the yellow circle to the card with Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
- Then, place the leaves and flowers over the circle. Stamp the sentiment from the Elegant Sayings Stamp Set in Obsidian Pigment Ink.
- Next, adhere the arrangement with Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
- Adhere the panel to an A2 card base.
