From Detailed to Simple: Butterfly Die Cut Card Ideas Using One Die | Take 2 with Therese
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Versatility of Tools: Demonstrates how a single "zero-waste" die (Fluttering Fantasies) can create two distinct styles: complex/detailed and clean/simple.
Card #1 (Detailed): Uses a high-contrast "Gilded Marble" background on dark cardstock, layered butterflies (vellum, glitter, and ink-splattered), and foam tape for multidimensional movement.
Card #2 (Simple): Features a minimalist design with a soft stamped floral silhouette and a single butterfly as the central focal point.
Technique Tips: Utilize ink splatters for texture, "pop up" wings for dimension, and repurpose leftover die cuts for future projects.
Butterfly die cut card ideas are so versatile, and today I’m sharing two designs using the same die to show how different techniques can change the finished look.
Hi there, it's Therese, and I'm back with another edition of Take 2 with Therese!

For today’s cards, I’m using the Creative Cuts: Zero-Waste Fluttering Fantasies die, which cuts multiple butterflies in one pass - perfect for creating both detailed and clean designs.

Card #1: A Flutter of Butterflies
I added some Pure White Ink splatter to the die cut Fluttering Fantasies butterflies, then layered them in a mix of Pastel Sunrise and Dew Drops, vellum and a little Fairy Dust Glitter cardstock for shine.
Then came the layout… and this part took a while! There were just so many options. In the end, I decided to have the butterflies flowing across the card, all moving in the same direction.
To help them really stand out, I created a Dark Night, Gilded Marble background behind them.
I started by placing the larger butterflies first, then built the smaller ones around them, finishing with the tiny fillers.
And to add some dimension, I popped up the wings of the larger butterflies with Instant Dimension Foam Tape. I finished the card with a simple sentiment from Frozen Moments tucked into the lower right among the butterflies.
Card #2: A Single Butterfly Focal Point

For this card, I went in a completely different direction and kept things clean and simple.
I stamped a soft silhouette floral branch from the Frozen Moments Stamp Set in the centre using the Orange Sorbet, then added a single Fluttering Fantasies butterfly popped up for a little dimension.
This one came together so quickly - no overthinking required! It really shows how just one butterfly can be enough to create a beautiful focal point.
I finished it off with a simple Dark Night stamped sentiment from the Frozen Moments Stamp Set in the lower right to balance the design.
These butterfly die cut card ideas show how versatile one die can be.

What will you do with your leftover die cuts?
It’s your turn! Will you create a full flutter of butterflies, or keep things clean and simple with a single focal point? Or maybe something in between using your leftover Fluttering Fantasies butterflies?
Let me know in the comments below if you are going to try either of these butterfly die cut card ideas - and don’t forget, I always love to see what you make, so be sure to share!
