Bring a Romantic Autumnal Feel To your Projects (+Video!) | Inspired By A Card with Nathalie
Last Updated: September 7, 2025
It's always an inventive idea to combine different products as they bring contemporary and graphic design in the background with the soft and delicate design of the blooms, along with finding contrast with the texture and vibrancy of the leaves. This combination brings a soft but textured look to today's project.
Hello crafty friends! It's Nathalie with you to share a new idea on how to bring a romantic autumnal feel to your projects featuring some of Altenew's latest released products. Today, we are going to focus on the Bright Bloom Layering Die Set, Crispy Leaves Die Set and Checkerboard Tiles Background Stencil to help us create this layout. Let's take a look at the project:
Start with a Graphic Background
In order to bring a romantic autumnal feel to your projects, it is important that we build it in layers, starting with a background that is soft but graphic. I am using the new Checkerboard Tiles Background Stencil and Fresh Dye Inks to create this base.
Since the size of the base is larger than the stencil, it was important to select and stencil that had a repetitive patterns; this helps to seamlessly stretch the design to fit a larger area with just a few extra steps
Here is how I created the background for this spread
- Trim a 9.5"x8.5" piece of white cardstock for the base.
- Use a ruler to set the Checkerboard Tiles Background Stencil at 0.5" from the bottom and left edge of the cardstock.
- Using Stampwheel Center Aligment Guides to help mask the area around the stencil.
- Use Mid Yellow Fresh Dye Ink and mini ink blending brush to start the stencil impression at the bottom left corner of the paper. Keep adding ink until about half of the stencil has been covered.
- Carefully shift the stencil to the right -making sure that the design continues- and complete the impression to 0.5" from the right edge of the paper.
- Use Pastel Sunrise Fresh Dye Ink to continue creating the impression of the stencil -making sure to blend the colors-
- Once again, shift the stencil so it sits at 0.5" from the top and left edges and use Canyon Clay Fresh Dye Ink to complete the impression of the stencil on the paper. Set aside to dry.
- Trim the paper by 0.25" on all sides, then frame it with a contrasting colored cardstock.
Using Florals and Leaves for an Autumnal Feel
The soft details in the Bright Bloom Layering Die Set along with the designs in the Crispy Leaves Die Set are the key to bring a romantic autumnal feel to your projects. The key is to play with color to bring texture and contrast.
Here is how we complete this spread;
- Use Crispy Leaves Die Set to create leaves from Crafty Necessities Coral Bliss Cardstock, Warm Sunshine Cardstock, Caramel Toffee Cardstock, Reindeer Moss Cardstock, Sicilian Amber Cardstock.
- Use Mid Yellow Fresh Dye Ink, Canyon Clay Fresh Dye Ink, Toasted Mauve Fresh Dye Ink, Evergreen Fresh Dye Ink to add color to the the leaves - they will look as if the leaves are changing colors-
- Use Bright Bloom Layering Die set to create the florals from Craft Necessities Buttercream Cardstock, Rouge Cardstock, Warm Sunshine Cardstock.
- Use Craft Necessities Green Gold Cardstock, and Espresso Cardstock to create the centers of the florals.
- Use Mid Yellow Fresh Dye Ink and Toasted Mauve ink to add color to the center of the yellow blossoms
- Use Toasted Mauve Fresh Dye Ink to add color to the center of the Rouge blossoms.
- Add photo under the cluster on the right corner of the spread.
- Use Obsidian Pigment ink to stamp sentiment from Autum Whispers stamp set.
- Use sentiment from One-Go: Solid Sentiment Strips 3 to create title for the spread. Using foam adhesive attach to the cluster on the left of the spread.
