I've made these woven hearts from a paper pattern I had years ago and always loved the Scandinavian look. So, I was thrilled to get the die and have it be the perfect size for cards. Yes, it does take some working with but it gets easier with practice. Thinner paper works better. I also iron the finished heart to flatten out any curls in it. I just love it!!!
This set was great to have to make the woven hearts. I've made a few dozen using various papers. :-) I used to cut paper to make woven heart baskets when I lived in Denmark. So, by folding the paper in half & moving the die a little off the edge I also was able to use this die to make a mini basket, too.
After my first go with this die I was frustrated so I looked at what other crafters reviews were saying. I agree it is a fussy die to work with but with patience and using the correct paper it is worth the effort. I used some rice paper with is easy to work with and comes in some gorgeous colors from Dick Blick. I used the rice paper for the side that needed to be manipulated for weaving and I used copper foil paper for the other side. Came out stunning. I used mini glue dots to glue down the ends and trimmed with scissors. Would not want to have to make a bunch of these beautiful hearts but I am happy with the die and the creative products that Altenew has to offer all of us in the crafting community. Thanks Altenew.
After many tries with many cardstock densities I found the PERFECT results. First of all, remember it will not be as easy and forgiving as fabric. And the extra difficulty of a smaller size must be kept in mind. So the solution I found was to use one sided laminate cardstock, and using a craft knife and ruler to widen the five slits. The results were stunning! Many compliments already!
Such a cute die. I love that you can use it with or without the semi-circle decorative cuts.
